Neighborhood Property Management (NPM) exists to serve Durham’s historic neighborhoods with care, integrity, and a long-term vision.

Rooted in the Grant Street Community within the historic Hayti District, this work grew out of relationship-based community development alongside legacy families, elders, and neighbors through BLK South, a nonprofit co-founded by Kendall and Erin Dooley. Kendall’s work in the neighborhood—listening to residents, walking properties, and supporting families through moments of transition—helped surface a consistent need for property management that was both professional and deeply rooted in community values.

NPM responds to that need.

Our approach goes beyond traditional property management by prioritizing the protection of legacy homes, supporting long-time residents, and helping families plan for long-term stability. This includes maintaining clean, safe, and well-cared-for properties, advocating for owners, supporting estate planning efforts, and creating pathways for community ownership and continuity.

While informed by community development values, NPM operates as a focused, professional property management company with dedicated systems and accountability. We currently operate under The Property Firm, LLC, a Durham-based, Black-owned real estate and property management company, through a two-year partnership and training pathway in which The Property Firm serves as Broker-in-Charge. This structure provides strong oversight, full regulatory compliance, and experienced leadership as NPM builds capacity and prepares to operate independently.

Revenue generated through our services is intentionally reinvested, with 2% of profits directed toward supporting home repairs, neighborhood stability, and long-term vitality—strengthening the communities we serve while remaining fully committed to responsive, high-quality property management.

We manage properties not just for today, but for the generations still to come.
